Two Girlfriends Henri de Toulouse-Lautrec

History of the Society

The Society was founded in 1977 by Alan Soble, then at the University of Texas at Austin, and now Emeritus Professor at University of New Orleans. Soble directed the Society from 1977 to 1992. From 1992 to 2005, the Society was directed by Carol Caraway of Indiana University of Pennsylvania. Since 2007, Helga Varden, of The University of Illinois, Urbana-Champaign and Patricia Marino, of the University of Waterloo, have co-directed the Society together.

Papers delivered at Society meetings between 1977 and 1992 were collected together in a volume edited by Soble: Sex, Love, and Friendship (Rodopi, 1997; order here). More recent papers (1993-2005, when The Society was directed by Carol Caraway), will be available in a forthcoming collection, Sex, Love, and Friendship, Volume 2.

The pages below list past events of the Society and the papers delivered.
